Frequently Asked Questions

What is occupational therapy (OT)?

What areas do you serve?

If you think of anything that "occupies" your time, that is an “occupation”. So, with OT, we can work on just about anything that you’re having difficulty with. For instance, if you had a fall outside and now you’re afraid to go out in the yard, but gardening is your favorite thing -- we can work on regaining your strength, balance, confidence, and can help you get back to doing what you love.

Quite often, if someone has worked with an Occupational Therapist, he/she probably had a pretty significant injury or illness and needed to work on regaining his/her independence with self-care activities or mobility so that he/she could return home. OT is empowering. We work with you to achieve your goals based on your individual needs and abilities.

Liv Equipt provides home assessments and consulting in-person and virtually throughout Alabama. We provide Aging in Place virtual home assessments and consulting nationwide. In-home occupational therapy is only provided for adults in the Birmingham, AL and surrounding areas.

What does it mean to Liv Equipt?

It’s no secret that as we grow older, our bodies and our abilities change. It is difficult to change the way you’ve been doing things for so long. Often, we get stuck in our routines, accustomed to performing certain tasks that have become difficult

-- we just accept that "it’s hard" -- or, what’s worse, we stop doing things that we enjoy. It does not have to be that way.

At Liv Equipt, we focus on altering your environment to best suit your needs and abilities. We work with you to design the “just right fit” to enable you to live your best life, equipped with the appropriate home modifications and life skills to THRIVE in your home environment.

Liv Equipt's goal is to help you "age in place" and avoid costly institutionalized living. As licensed occupational therapists, we believe in individualized care plans. We understand that aging is not “one size fits all”. We focus on your unique needs and situation to provide you with a care plan that enables you to get back to doing what you love, right where you want to stay -- at home.

What are your fees?

Life and people are complex. Liv Equipt is built on the premise that everyone is different and deserves to be treated on an individual basis. Therefore, in order to achieve the "just right fit," the majority of our service pricing varies based on your unique needs. We work with you to develop a treatment plan and choose services that work best for you. Please email us with questions regarding pricing for specific services.

We accept Medicare part B and Blue Advantage for medically necessary occupational therapy services. This will require a doctor's order. If you do not have a doctor's order, we can help you to obtain necessary documentation. We also accept BCBS and ALL kids for medically necessary, pediatric Occupational Therapy services at our Equipt Kids clinic in Vestavia.

Insurance may cover medically necessary OT services with a doctor's order. We at Liv Equipt take a holistic approach to your care and providing solutions to meet your needs. Not all beneficial services may be deemed "medically necessary" and should be further discussed with your provider prior to treatment.

The OT assessment portion of home assessments may be covered. However, the client has to be present for possible insurance coverage (ie- it is not covered while still in rehab unless this is a workers' comp case).
